Project Manager, Nath Companies

Deepak Nath graduated from Babson College in 1995 with a B.S. degree in entrepreneurial studies.   He has worked in various position throughout Nath Companies for over 23 years.   Feeding his passion for entrepreneurship, Deepak has also spent the last 17 years focusing on his many ventures in the entertainment world.   Following a dream that started in college, he opened his first venue, Fahrenheit Nightclub, in downtown Minneapolis.   Since then, his portfolio has added such names as Envy Nightclub, Bootleggers, The Pourhouse, and The Exchange.   2017 has brought an exciting addition to Deepak’s entertainment endeavors as he, along with his partners, created and built The Lumber Exchange Event Center, a 24,000 sq. ft. wedding and event complex, which is located in the historic Lumber Exchange Building.


Treasurer, Nath Companies

Shalini Nath-Walia is the Treasurer of Nath Companies responsible for financial management and wealth strategies. She is also responsible for project evaluation, M&A activities and overall corporate strategic planning. She joined Nath Companies in 1992 after working for Coopers & Lybrand where she was an Auditor, yet because she is related to the owner of Nath Companies, she started at the bottom of the corporate ladder as an Assistant General Manager at a Burger King restaurant in the Minnesota market.

In 1994 she was promoted to Restaurant Manager. She was promoted from the restaurant division one year later to become Project Manager responsible for the research, development and integration of new franchise businesses as a secondary diversification for the franchise groups. Through financial analysis and market demographic evaluations, she launched the company’s co-branding of Burger King Restaurants with new complimentary concepts, including three TCBY’s. From 1995 through 2006 she led the M&A activities for all acquisitions and divestitures of the franchise groups.

Shalini has a B.S. in accounting from Boston College and obtained her MBA in New Venture Management from the University of St. Thomas in 1999.


Project Manager, Nath Companies

Dave Walia has more than twenty years experience growing entrepreneurial companies. He joined Nath Companies in 1994 and assisted in growing the Burger King Division from 42 restaurants to 146 in four years.

In 1998 he diversified the company into hotel ownership and management. His role with Nath Companies has been to identify under-performing assets, acquire them and build successful management teams to turn around the operations. He has coordinated the acquisition and divestiture of assets, including commercial real estate, hospitality and restaurant concepts. In 2008 he led the acquisition of Axel’s and Bonfire casual dining restaurants with plans to grow this division to 25 restaurants in five cities over the next decade.

Before joining Nath, he was an Engineering & Construction consultant for both Brown & Root and M.W. Kellogg for clients such as Proctor & Gamble, Phillip Morris, AECI and NASA. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1990 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and has an MBA in New Venture Management from the University of St. Thomas in 2000.

He began his financial career in public accounting providing hospitality consulting with one of the largest firms at the time. He also has experience in the hotel industry with a stint in management in the food and beverage department of a 500 room property in Michigan directly out of college.

His love, accomplishments and experiences in all aspects of casual dining will aid Bonfire Restaurant Company in growing this concept successfully into a regional growth brand in the next few years.
